Keyword Selection

  • Conduct thorough keyword research to identify relevant, high-intent keywords that potential customers are searching for. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner and SEMrush to find keywords with good search volume and low competition.
  • Organize keywords into themed ad groups to improve relevance and performance. Group similar keywords together to enable more targeted ad copy and landing pages.
  • Include both broad match and exact match keywords in your campaigns. Broad match keywords can help you reach a wider audience, while exact match ensures you show ads for very specific queries.
  • Use negative keywords to exclude irrelevant searches that could waste your budget. Identify common misspellings, unrelated terms, and low-intent keywords to add to your negative keyword list.

Bidding Strategies

  • Manual bidding gives you full control over bids but requires more hands-on management. Set bids for each keyword, ad group or campaign based on your goals and budget.
  • Automated bidding strategies like Target CPA and Target ROAS use machine learning to automatically adjust bids to achieve your desired cost per acquisition or return on ad spend. These can save time but require historical data to work effectively.
  • Bid adjustments allow you to increase or decrease bids for specific locations, devices, audiences, and times of day. Use bid adjustments to optimize performance for your target demographics.
  • Experiment with different bid amounts to find the sweet spot between cost and performance. Gradually increase bids for top-performing keywords to improve ad position and click-through rates.
  • Monitor keyword performance closely and adjust bids accordingly. Lower bids for underperforming keywords and reallocate budget to your best-performing keywords and ad groups.

The key is to continuously test different keyword combinations and bidding approaches, analyze the results, and optimize your campaigns over time. By finding the right balance of keyword selection and bidding, you can maximize the ROI of your SEM efforts.
